CGI Society 'Steampunk Myths & Legends' winners

The CGI Society has unveiled the winners of their latest graphics-creation competition and there's some truly fantastic art on show as a result.

Bonsaininja's Master-Award winning Team Video Entry, EMET, is just fabulous, and the judges must have had an incredibly hard time choosing between that and the winner of the Team Excellence Award, Atlantis: An Inconvenient Truth, which was submitted by a team of four German designers.

Elsewhere, there's more incredible artwork on display, including the winner in the Individual Image category, Fabricio Moraes' 'Steamnocchio':

Check out the piece's entry page to see the various stages of the work-in-progress.

I think my personal favourite, though, has to be the winner of the Best Character award, Guillaume Dubois' 'Alice's Adventures in Steamland':

Again, work-in-progress images available on the entry page.

Much of the art for the CGI series can be found in the range of CG art books by Aussie publisher Ballistic, which I've plugged a few times on the FP blog (we're one of the few UK outlets that do most of their books). A lot of the books have some good material from experts talking about the actual creation aspects, good for others wanting to work in CG art, and for the talentless like myself you can just treat them as glossy art books, some lovely work in them from fantasy art to architecture.

Yeah, I've seen those books advertised on their site. They look terrific, but are probably a little past my casual purchase price-point.

This is a very nice contest. I've seen quite a few nice videos there and many talented artists.
My favorites are the winner of Digital Painting, "Icarus Day" by Tomasz Jedruszek and the winner of Lighting, "Odysseus' Departure" by Aleksander Novak-Zemplinski.

As for the Ballistic books, indeed they are looking great, but I find them quite expansive :)

"Odysseus' Departure" was a close second for me, too. The Alice-theme just edged it though. I'm a sucker for anything themed on Lewis Carroll...
